Neermadhalam Poothakalam

Neermatalam Poothakaalm' is a journey through the memories of the childhood and teenage years of Malayalam's beloved storyteller Madhavikutty/Kamaldas Kamalasuriah, who was rejected by her family and society for her literary works while alive and became immortal through the same works after her death. The novel starts with Nalapat Tharavad and his great-grandfathers and gradually moves to Calcutta with his father Madhavan Nair and mother Balamaniamma. Kamala used to communicate more than her parents who were wandering in their own world

A bunch of attendants (Parukutty and Madhaviyamma, Narayanan Nair, Kunjathu, Tripura and the driver Naresh are all present in the novel). It mainly deals with the people and lives he passed through during his teenage life in Calcutta. Madhavikutty remembers many extraordinary lives like Lakshman who comes home with a bear, Matilda the tailor, Dhobi's daughter Parvati who has to marry an old man, Peggy the Anglo Indian classmate, Nip the inmate of Gully and Majumdar Babu who lured girls to the movies. The gap between the rich and the poor is depicted throughout the novel while clearly showing the caste system that was strong in those times.
